Module 3: Fruity favourites

Before teaching this module please advise your children on the following information:

  • Introduce the Five a day campaign (see http://www.5aday.nhs.uk/ for more information).
  • Explain how important it is that we all try to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg each day.
  • Make sure children understand that many processed foods and ready meals may contain some fruit and vegetables but they also typically contain high levels of fat, sugar and salt and so should only be eaten in moderation.

Learning Objectives

  • Inform children of the benefits of different fruit and vegetables
  • Advise how these benefits affect their everyday lives
  • Reinforce the reasons why children should eat lots of fruit and vegetables

Getting Started

  1. Click on the link to the left to upload the summary sheet on nutrition
  2. Click on the instructions pdf on the left and use it as a guide activity
  3. Project the information sheet on 5-a-day onto the IWB
  4. Talk about the information on display
  5. Once the class have a clear understanding of the benefits of eating different fruits and vegetables bring up the PowerPoint presentation for the children to use as a template for their presentation.
