The Interactive Whiteboard activity requires children to have basic knowledge of what constitutes 5-a-day and the benefits of vitamin C.
Part 1 – Five-a-day
Learning Objectives
- To help children understand what a portion of fruit or vegetables is
- Advise children on what counts and does not count as a portion
- Reinforces the advice on how people can get their 5-a-day
Getting Started
- Click on the link to the left to start the game
- Click on the instructions pdf on the left and use it as a guide for the game
- Explain to the children that they can get some of their five-a-day by eating certain types of meals and that they don’t have to eat five individual pieces of fruit.
- Once the class have a clear understanding of the basics of the food chain you can move onto the activity
- Project the module poster onto the IWB
Part 2 – Vitamins
Learning Objectives
- Reinforce the benefits of eating 5 pieces of fruit and vegetables a day
- Educate children on which fruit and vegetables contain which vitamins
- Advise on the benefits each vitamin can offer

- Click the link to bring up the ‘vitamin circles’
- 10 pictures of different fruit and vegetables will also appear on screen alongside the circles.
- The circles and pictures should be projected onto the IWB so that the whole class or group can participate in the activity.
Possible Questions to ask the children during both of the activities:
- What does '5 a day' mean?
- Why are fruit and vegetables so good for us?
- What can happen if we don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables?
- What is counted as a portion of fruit or vegetables?
